Suitable for your roof?

The CWL Anker is certified for bonded attachment on five roof types. Each roof covering sets minimum requirements for tensile strength, tear strength and shear strength. Request your roof covering specifications from the roofing installer or contact us for a substrate assessment.

PVC / FPO / ECB

  • Tensile strength≥ 500 N/50mm
  • Tear strength≥ 110 N/50mm
  • Shear strength≥ 450 N/50mm
  • Peel strength≥ 150 N/50mm

Most common; check which generation of PVC (plasticised vs. TPO)

Bitumen

  • Tensile strength≥ 300 N/50mm
  • Tear strength≥ 150 N/50mm
  • Shear strength≥ 500 N/50mm
  • Peel strength≥ 125 N/50mm

Special installation procedure M-350 - heat sensitivity and age are critical

EPDM

  • Tensile strength≥ 400 N/50mm
  • Tear strength≥ 12 N/mm²
  • Shear strength≥ 200 N/50mm
  • Peel strength≥ 80 N/50mm

Installation procedure M-349; special primer required

Restrictions

Installation is not permitted in the situations below. These require additional investigation or rule out bonded attachment altogether.

1. Aged or damaged roof covering

  • - Cracks, blisters or patch repairs in the roof covering
  • - Loose or non-adhered top layers
  • - Visible water infiltration or moisture damage
  • - Mechanical damage (scratches, perforations)

2. Roof covering older than 15 years

Material ageing significantly reduces bonding quality. An on-site adhesion test is mandatory before installation; when in doubt: installation is not permitted.

3. Structural chain not demonstrable

The roof covering must be continuously attached to the roof structure. If the structural chain (roof covering → insulation → deck) cannot be demonstrated, bonded attachment is not permitted.

4. Roof renovation planned

When the roof covering is replaced, anchor points must be removed and reinstalled after the renovation. Reusing previously bonded anchor points is not permitted.

5. Unknown substrate specifications

When the type, thickness or age of the roof covering cannot be established, installation is not permitted without prior laboratory testing or an adhesion test in accordance with the CWL protocol.

6. A fall load has occurred

After any dynamic load (fall or shock) the anchor point must be inspected by a certified inspector. Anchor points that have sustained a fall load may not be reused without recertification.

Thermal load - dark roofs

On dark roof coverings (bitumen, dark PVC) surface temperatures can reach 70°C or higher under solar radiation. Above 70°C the bonding strength is temporarily but significantly reduced.

  • Install only at roof temperatures below 50°C (early morning or overcast)
  • Wait at least 72 hours after installation before the first load
  • A light protective plate (reflective coating) is recommended at structural ambient temperatures above 60°C
